Before You Begin


Every year, ASLA Colorado conducts an awards program to recognize professional excellence by its members in the practice of landscape architecture. The Colorado chapter models its awards program on the ASLA national awards program, and encourages entrants to submit to both.


A Call for Entries is typically issued in May/June, with a submission deadline in mid-July. Entries are then judged by another ASLA chapter outside of Colorado, and projects are awarded at the chapter’s annual gathering and celebration, typically held in September. Award-winning projects are displayed on the chapter’s website and are also used in advocacy campaigns and at public events.

2021 Dates

For consideration, you must complete your online submission by Friday, July 23rd, 2021 at 5:00 PM MST. Entries received after that time and date will be rejected.

All winning projects will be announced at the ASLA Colorado Annual Awards Event and Celebration. The celebration this year will be in-person, with the appropriate COVID-19 safety protocols mandated by the event venue, and will be held on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021 at the Denver Botanic Gardens.

Information, Images, and Documents

The new streamlined entry process uses a single online form to collect information and submission materials. Before initiating the process, have all of your materials and files collected and prepared for upload. In-progress forms cannot be saved to return to later, and edits or additions cannot be made to the online form once it has been submitted. Additional details about the process and the specific requirements for each category can be found in the Call for Entries.

Below is a checklist of all required materials for the submittal process:

  • Appropriate permissions from firm principal and client to submit the project
  • Project Statement (175 words max, omitting identifying information, e.g. firm name, logos, consultant names, etc.)
  • Project Narrative (1300 words max, omitting identifying information)
  • Featured Image (JPEG,1900 pixels wide)
  • Project Images, include at least one site plan (min 5 images, max 16, JPEG, landscape orientation, 1900 pixels wide)
  • Image Captions, for each image (40 words max)
  • Plant List, for all design projects (Latin names not required)
  • Planning Documents, for all planning projects (PDF)
  • Other relevant documents, websites & media, as appropriate
  • Awards Board (24″ x 24″ square, PDF, 300dpi, include firm name, project title, location, and “ASLA Colorado Professional Awards 2021”)
  • Entry fee (via PayPal)

All entries must be submitted by a member of ASLA Colorado, with the exception of entries for the Landmark Award category, which may be submitted by anyone.

Award winners may be asked to provide additional images and/or a brief video about the project for use in chapter events and online.

Step 2 – Register as a user on the ASLA Colorado website. You will be given a username and password for logging into the website.

Step 3 – Once you are registered for the site, you can start your Award Submission. You must be logged in.

Step 4 – Submit payment for each award submission. After payment, you will see a list of all award submissions you have made and the details you have submitted.
